What had happened was....

So, I fell in love with who you used to be,
Peace, passion, and poise is what I used to see,
Now you’ve changed, you’re no longer a part of me,
Fell in love with another, now my heart is free.

Not on me, cast your fury on yesterday,
Surely, you’re still loved, but in a lesser way,
Next time choose carefully the words you will say,
Another broken heart, a huge cost to pay!

Together forever, well that’s what I thought,
But I love for what is, you love for what ought,
The want for love, perhaps too quickly I sought,
Next time I will adhere to what mama taught.

Woe to the fool, who builds his castle with sand,
Who loves so freely, and expect to withstand,
The pain relationships most often demand,
Honey, don’t give your heart for the touch of his hand.

So I fell in love with who you use to be,
Because you pledged you’d always be true to me,
Once together, your behavior seemed new to me,
No harm done, a lesson learned, for the future me.
